Romania, Kingdom. An Order of the Crown of Romania, Commander, by Josef Resch & Fils
A nice cased example. Instituted in 1881. Type I (1881-1941 Issue). Maltese cross in red and white enamel, crowns and swords at each corner, obverse center shows Royal crown surrounded by the inscription “Prin Noi Insine / 14 Martie 1881”, reverse center shows date “10 Maiu”, on original blue necklet ribbon, 60.9 mm, evidence of slight chipping on obverse centrepiece white enamel, extremely fine condition. Housed in original case with Royal monogram of King Carol II (1930-1947) on the cover, evidence of wear on exterior, the lid hinge damaged with the hinge detached half way across.
The Order of the Crown of Romania is a chivalric order set up on 14 March 1881 by King Carol I of Romania to commemorate the establishment of the Kingdom of Romania. It was awarded as a state order until the end of the Romanian monarchy in 1947.
